LEVEL III - CLERICAL (Dayton Public Schools)

NATURE OF WORK: This is a district wide classification where the incumbent will perform a variety of secretarial tasks depending on assignments such as: processes and maintains student records, prepares correspondences, statistical reports, forms, and newsletters. Maintains payroll, purchase orders and requisitions.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE: Must have 5 years of office experience AND Level I (Basic) Microsoft Word computer skills. Training or courses in business office practices may substitute for up to 3 years of the required experience. Any two of the following (or similar courses) may substitute for one year of experience: keyboarding, introduction to computers, filing applications, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access or office management.

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to type 40 net words per minute. Ability to type/utilize computer keyboard for long periods may be required.

CITIZENSHIP: Must be a U. S. citizen or have the legal right to work in the United States at time of application.

PROMOTIONAL QUALIFICATIONS (Dayton Public Schools Employees): Current permanent employment with Dayton Public Schools must be indicated on your application in order to receive promotional credit. Current employment will be verified by Dayton Public School's Human Resources Department. Identical scores will be broken by (1) seniority and (2) random selection method.

OPEN COMPETITIVE APPLICANTS: Applicants appearing on the Promotional eligible list shall be considered for appointment prior to those on the Open Competitive list. Identical exam scores will be broken in favor of: (1) the candidate who received military credit and (2) random selection method.

MILITARY CREDIT: Open Competitive applicants who have had military service will receive an additional credit of 20% if a passing grade is attained. TO OBTAIN CREDIT, A COPY OF THE DD214 OR CERTIFICATE OF SERVICE (INDICATING HONORABLE DISCHARGE) MUST BE PRESENTED AT TIME OF EXAMINATION.

NOTES: Examination dates and times are subject to change. Post secondary education must be from a college, university, or institution of higher learning that is accredited by the U.S. Department of Education through the North Central Association of Colleges and Universities or equivalent region. Calculators will be provided for the Civil Service examination. Final appointment may be contingent upon the applicant passing a job-related medical examination, drug screen and/or police background investigation and providing documentary evidence of Employment Authorization and Identity. Applicants are responsible for providing all necessary employment dates, experience, training, or any other requirements as stated in the Exam Announcement, in order for their application to be considered for certification and admittance to the examination process.

Please note that the Level III - Clerical exam consists of a typing test, Basic Microsoft Word test and a computerized exam.
