SHEET METAL WORKER (Dayton Public Schools)

NATURE OF WORK: Fabricates or installs products that are made from thin metal sheets, such as metal roofing and ducts used for heating and air conditioning. Duties include: select types of sheet metal or nonmetallic material, measure and mark dimensions and reference lines on metal sheets. Installs metal sheets with supportive frameworks and fabricates or alters parts at construction sites. Anchor and fasten parts, seams or joints by welding, bolting, riveting or soldering. Maintains various shop equipment.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE: Must have 4 years of experience as an apprentice in sheet metal work followed by 2 years of field experience.

GENERAL REQUIREMENT: Must have good knowledge of the methods, tools, equipment and materials of the sheet metal trade, and skill in their use and mechanical aptitude.

CITIZENSHIP: Must be a U.S. citizen or have the legal right to work in the United States at time of application.

MILITARY CREDIT: Open Competitive Applicants who have had military service will receive an additional credit of 20% if a passing grade is attained. TO OBTAIN CREDIT, A NON-RETURNABLE COPY OF THE DD214 OR CERTIFICATE OF SERVICE (INDICATING HONORABLE DISCHARGE) MUST BE SUBMITTED AT TIME OF EXAMINATION.

NOTES: In the event of identical exam scores, the tie will be broken in favor of the candidate who received military credit. If a tie score still exists, the tie will be broken by a random selection method.

Examination dates and times are subject to change. Calculators will be provided for the Civil Service examination. Final appointment is contingent upon the applicant passing a job-related medical examination including drug screen and/or police background investigation and providing documentary evidence of Employment Authorization and Identity. Applicants are responsible for providing all necessary employment dates, experience, training, or any other requirements as stated in the Exam Announcement, in order for their application to be considered for certification and admittance to the examination process.
