ELECTRICIAN (Dayton Public Schools)

NATURE OF WORK: Installs, maintains, repairs, and upgrades electrical systems and equipment including wiring, fuse boxes, switch panels, receptacles, electrical fixtures and controls, generators and motors. Performs maintenance and repair on control equipment, electrical system, and digital controls for air conditioning, heating and cooling, refrigeration, public address systems, fire alarms, and emergency generators. Reviews and determines method of installation from wiring diagrams and plans.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE: Must have 4 years of verifiable experience as an apprentice or Journeyworker Electrician, or equivalent in experience and training.

LICENSE REQUIREMENT: Must possess a valid driver's license at time of appointment and maintain thereafter as a term and condition of continued employment.

CITIZENSHIP: Must be a U.S. citizen or have the legal right to work in the United States at time of application.

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to use measuring instruments, read blueprints and/or specifications, and lift or carry items weighing 100 pounds.

MILITARY CREDIT: Open Competitive applicants who have had military service will receive an additional credit of 20% if a passing grade is attained. TO OBTAIN CREDIT, A NON-RETURNABLE COPY OF THE DD214 OR CERTIFICATE OF SERVICE (INDICATING HONORABLE DISCHARGE) MUST BE PRESENTED AT TIME OF EXAMINATION.

NOTES: In the event of identical exam scores, the tie will be broken in favor of the candidate who received military credit. If a tie score still exists, the tie will be broken by a random selection method.

Examination dates and times are subject to change. Calculators will be provided for the Civil Service examination. Final appointment may be contingent upon the applicant passing a job-related medical examination, drug screen and/or police background investigation and providing documentary evidence of Employment Authorization and Identity. Applicants are responsible for providing all necessary employment dates, experience, training, or any other requirements as stated in the Exam Announcement, in order for their application to be considered for certification and admittance to the examination process.
