AIRPORT POLICE OFFICER

NATURE OF WORK:

Incumbents provide full law enforcement/police services at Aviation facilities by enforcing applicable laws, ordinances, administrative orders, Transportation Security Administration (TSA) and Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulations.


REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSA's):

Incumbent is expected to stay abreast of current technological methods and have KSA's inclusive of but not limited to the following areas:

* Must learn the use of Ground Control Radios in order to communicate with Air Traffic Controllers when operating within the air operations area. The usage of the N.A.T.O. phonetic alphabet is required, as well as Federal Air Traffic Controllers terminology.
* Familiarity with airport lighting and various navigational aids and airport disaster/rescue plans.
* Knowledge of active runway compass coordinates and active taxiway compositions.
* Ability to understand oral and written instructions, speak and write effectively.
* Ability to meet the public and to obtain and give information courteously.
* Ability to react quickly, calmly, and lawfully under emergency situations; cope with situations firmly, courteously, tactfully and with respect to the rights of
others.
* Ability to analyze situations quickly and objectively and to determine the proper course of action.


MINIMUM EDUCATION:

High School diploma or G.E.D


AGE:

Must be at least 21 years of age


CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

Must have completed, or be enrolled in, an accredited Ohio Peace Officer's Basic Training Program. Must possess a valid Ohio Peace Officer's Training Council Certificate; OR the equivalent letter from the Attorney General of the State of Ohio.

A non-returnable copy of the certificate OR equivalent letter will be required. Applicants who are currently enrolled in an accredited Ohio Peace Officer's Training program must present proof of enrollment. Note: The 120 hour training program DOES NOT meet the training requirement.

Candidates who are hired and require Ohio Peace Officer Certification refresher training, must pay the costs of such training and complete training within one year of appointment as a condition of continued employment.


LICENSE REQUIREMENT:

Must possess a valid driver's license at time of appointment and maintain thereafter as a term and condition of continued employment.


GENERAL REQUIREMENT:
Must maintain proficiency in the use and care of firearms.


BACKGROUND:
Must pass a police background investigation. Will be subject to a psychological examination.


PHYSICAL:
Must pass a job-related medical examination which includes a drug screen and cardiopulmonary fitness testing.
